Teacher Qualifications and Definitions

CFRQT 200 | Certified Forest Rock Qigong Teacher
This is a person who has completed the Level 1 200-hour Qi Gong Teacher Training either by attending an in-person Teacher Training course or by an online Teacher Training course. For details of the criteria to qualify for the 200hr QTT and the different pathway options, click here.

RCFRQT 200 | Registered Certified Forest Rock Qigong Teacher
This is a person who has completed the Level 1 200-hour Qi Gong Teacher Training and is registered on the website directory of the Forest Rock Taiji and Qigong School. For details of the criteria to qualify for the 200-hour QTT and the different pathway options, click here.

CFRTT 200 | Certified Forest Rock Taiji Teacher
This is a person who has completed Level 1 200-hour of the Taiji Teacher Training. (This training is not available at the moment.)

RCFRTT 200 | Registered Certified Forest Rock Taiji Teacher
This is a person who has completed the Level 1 200-hour Qi Gong Taiji Training and is registered on the website directory of the Forest Rock Taiji and Qigong School. (This option is not available at the moment.)

CFRQT 500 | Certified Forest Rock Qigong Teacher
This is a person who has completed Level 2 300-hour Qi Gong Teacher Training either by completing an in-person Level 2 Teacher Training or by a Level 2 300-hour online Teacher Training and has completed 500 hours of training and practice.

RCFRQT 500 | Registered Certified Forest Rock Qigong Teacher
This is a person who has completed the Level 2 300-hour Qi Gong Teacher Training either by completing an in-person Level 2 Teacher Training or by a Level 2 300-hour online Teacher Training and has completed 500 hours of training and practice and is registered on the website directory of the Forest Rock Taiji and Qigong School.

CFRTT 500 | Certified Forest Rock Taiji Teacher
This is a person who has completed Level Two 300-hour Taiji Teacher Training and has completed 500 hours of training and practice (This training is not available at the moment.)

RCFRTT 500 | Registered Certified Forest Rock Taiji Teacher
This is a person who has completed the Level 2 300-hour Taiji Teacher Training and is registered on the website directory of the Forest Rock Taiji and Qigong School. (This option is not available at the moment.)

CFRQT 1000 | Certified Forest Rock Qigong Teacher
This is a person who has completed Level 3 300-hour Qi Gong Teacher Training by completing a Level 3 300-hour Qi Gong Teacher Training in-person and has completed 1000 hours of training and practice.

RCFRQT 1000 | Registered Certified Forest Rock Qigong Teacher
This is a person who has completed Level 3 300-hour Qi Gong Teacher Training by completing a Level 3 300-hour Qi Gong Teacher Training in-person and has completed 1000 hours of training and practice and is registered on the website directory of the Forest Rock Taiji and Qigong School.

CFRTT 1000 | Certified Forest Rock Taiji Teacher
This is a person who has completed Level 3 300-hour Taiji Teacher Training. (This training is not available at the moment.)

RCFRTT 1000 | Registered Certified Forest Rock Qigong Teacher
This is a person who has completed the Level 3 300-hour Taiji Teacher Training and is registered on the website directory of the Forest Rock Taiji and Qigong School. (This option is not available at the moment.)

To teach at the Forest Rock Qigong School, Teachers must be documented as having either:

CFRQT 200, 500, 1000 or
RCFRQT 200, 500, 1000 or
CFRTT 200, 500, 1000 or
RCFRTT 200, 500, 1000

Teaching Requirements for External Teachers Who Teach for Forest Rock Qigong

Other faculty and teachers that are not registered with the Forest Rock Qigong School (FRQS), need to meet the following qualifications in order to teach for Forest Rock Qigong School:

  • Relevant degree, certification, or documented substantial education in the subject they will teach.
  • A minimum of 500 hours teaching experience or two years of relevant experience in the subject they will teach.

 

Teaching Hours Required by Forest Rock Lead Teachers

Lead Teacher(s) are RCFRQT or RCFRTT at the appropriate level to teach the relevant Forest Rock Qigong student (FRQS) designation (see table below) and certified to teach contact hours in a Forest Rock Qigong or Taiji Training. Lead Teachers must be actively teaching and are registered on the website directory for the Forest Rock Qigong School.

In order to meet the criteria for a Lead Teacher, they must have completed the minimum numbers of teaching hours required in any of the five educational categories to teach/instruct in that category. The minimum number of teaching hours by subject category are defined in the Individual Standards for each RCFRQT or RCFRTT designation.

Directive for Forest Rock Teachers Instructing Their Own Classes, Workshops, or Courses Outside of Forest Rock

A Certified Forest Rock teacher instructing their own classes, workshops, or courses outside of Forest Rock Offerings, who wants to teach any of the Forest Rock Qigong exercise systems and/or use any of the Forest Rock intellectual property (as in information gained from Forest Rock manuals and TCM theory lessons learnt during Forest Rock Courses and/or trainings) can only share the content with the qualification of the appropriate Forest Rock Qigong teacher designation listed in (Table 1.) above.

In Summary:

For a Forest Rock teacher to teach Qi Gong or Taiji classes using Forest Rock exercises and any Forest Rock written material and intellectual property, the teacher must:

  • have completed a Level 1 Forest Rock Teacher Training.
  • have completed 15 hours of in-person or online teaching of the Forest Rock Exercises and/or TCM Theory and Philosophy.
  • be registered on the website Teacher Directory of the Forest Rock Qigong School.

 

To teach a one day or less Qi Gong course, training, or workshop using Forest Rock Qigong exercises and any Forest Rock written material and intellectual property, the teacher must:

  • have completed a Level 1 Forest Rock Teacher Training.
  • be certified.
  • have completed 15 hours of in-person teaching of Forest Rock Exercises and/or TCM Theory and Philosophy.
  • be registered on the Forest Rock website in the Teacher Directory as a Forest Rock Qigong School Teacher.

 

To teach a two or more days Qi Gong course, training, or workshop using Forest Rock Qigong exercises and any Forest Rock written material and intellectual property, the teacher must:

  • have completed Level 2 300-hour Forest Rock Teacher Training.
  • be a certified 500-hour teacher.
  • have completed 50 hours of in-person teaching of Forest Rock Exercises and/or TCM Theory and Philosophy.
  • be registered on the Forest Rock website in the Teacher Directory as a Forest Rock Qigong School Teacher.

 

To teach a Level 1 Qi Gong Teacher Training or any Qi Gong Teacher Training of any duration using Forest Rock Qigong exercises and any Forest Rock written material and intellectual property, the teacher must:

  • have completed Level 3 300-hour Forest Rock Teacher Training.
  • be a 1000-hour certified teacher.
  • have completed 100 hours of in-person teaching of Forest Rock Exercises and/or TCM Theory and Philosophy.
  • be registered on the Forest Rock website in the Teacher Directory as a Forest Rock Qigong School Teacher.

 

To teach a Level 2 Qi Gong Teacher Training using Forest Rock Qigong exercises and any Forest Rock written material and intellectual property, the teacher must:

  • have completed Level 3 300-hour Forest Rock Teacher Training. 
  • be a 1000-hour certified teacher.
  • have completed 200 hours of in-person teaching of Forest Rock Exercises and/or TCM Theory and Philosophy.
  • be registered on the Forest Rock website in the Teacher Directory as a Forest Rock Qigong School Teacher

 

To teach a Level 3 Qi Gong Teacher Training Course using Forest Rock Qigong exercises and any Forest Rock written material and intellectual property, the teacher must:

  • have completed the Level 3 300-hour Forest Rock Teacher Training.
  • be a 1000-hour certified teacher.
  • have completed 400 hour of in-person teaching of Forest Rock Exercises and/or TCM Theory and Philosophy.
  • be registered on the Forest Rock website in the Teacher Directory as a Forest Rock Qigong School Teacher.

 

Subjects of Study

Although Forest Rock Qigong School honours and respects related disciplines and traditions, both contact and non-contact hours are limited to areas that fall within the scope of Traditional Taiji, Qi Gong, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) studies.

 

CPR and First Aid Training

CPR and First Aid training hours cannot be counted toward satisfying the minimum QTT curriculum hours or Continuing Education Contact Hours. Forest Rock Qigong School suggests CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and First Aid training for all RCFRQT’s or RCFRTT’s.

Section 2. Educational Categories by Forest Rock Continuing Education Provider (FRCEP)

Below you will find a list of descriptions for the educational categories for the Forest Rock Continuing Education Provider (FRCEP) designation.

  2. As you add your courses to your FRCEP profile, you must make sure the content fits within our educational categories. This helps teachers know exactly what is covered and that your courses are eligible for Forest Rock CE hours in the categories that are listed.
  3. The Educational Categories do not include diagnosis or treatment of mental or physical health conditions.

Techniques, Training, and Practice (TTP)

How to Do (Practice) Qi Gong or Taiji
Topics can include, but are not limited to:

  • Qi Gong Exercises
  • Medical Qi Gong
  • Qi Gong Meditation
  • Other traditional Qi Gong or Taiji techniques.


Teaching Methodology (TM)

How to Teach Effectively
Topics can include but are not limited to:

  • Lesson plans
  • Communication skills such as group dynamics, time management, and prioritizing (how to address the specific needs of individuals and special populations to the degree possible in a group setting)
  • Principles of demonstration (observation, assisting, and correcting)
  • Qualities of a teacher
  • Teaching fundamentals
  • Teaching styles and the student learning processes.


Anatomy and Physiology (AP)

The Physical & Energetic Bodies
Topics can include but are not limited to:

  • Both human physical anatomy and physiology (bodily systems, organs, etc.)
  • Energy anatomy and physiology.

This includes both the study of the subject and application of the principles of Qi Gong and Taiji practice (benefits, contraindications, healthy movement patterns, etc).


Philosophy, Lifestyle, and Ethics (PLE)

History, Philosophy, Ethics, and Lifestyle Practices of Qi Gong & Taiji Topics can include but are not limited to:

  • The study of Qi Gong and Taiji philosophies and traditional texts (lifestyle and precepts).
  • Ethics for Qi Gong and Taiji teachers (such as those involving teacher-student relationships).
  • Understanding the value of teaching as a service and being of service to others through Qi Gong and Taiji.


Taiji Philosophy and Practice

This is a specialised field of study, that is designed to give teachers supervised practical experience to enhance previously or concurrently studied field as in teaching on a FR course teaching Qi Gong exercises or TCM and Qi Gong theory.

Section 3. Continuing Education Requirements

What Are the Requirements for an RCFRTQT?

We are all students of Qi Gong. Regardless of how accomplished you are as a teacher; success should inspire continued learning and growth. Each RCFRTQT must meet the following Continuing Education (CE) requirements on an ongoing basis:

  • Qualified Education Providers have to be authorized by FR.
  • Every 2 years starting from your initial date of registration, each RCFRQT and RCFRTT must complete and log a minimum of:
    • 40 hours of online or in-person teaching of Forest Rock Qigong Exercises, and –
    • 30 hours of Qi Gong related training that is directly related to one of our Educational Categories, of which:
      • At least 15 training hours must be in-person Contact Hours.
      • No more than 15 training hours may be Non-Contact Hours.
      • Teaching or training hours prior to registration do not count as Continuing Education.
  • If you earn more than the required hours in a two-year period, the extra hours may not rollover into the next two-year period.
  • Continuing Education hours should be spent learning something new – through research, study, or experiential learning – rather than synthesizing or processing prior knowledge.

 

What are Continuing Education Contact Hours? 

Continuing Education Contact Hours are classroom hours in the physical presence of a qualified Continuing Education Provider (CEP). All hours must be directly related to one of our Educational Categories.

One Contact hour equals one hour of any of the following activities:

  • Qi Gong Workshops (single session or ongoing series)

  • Courses

  • Discussion or study groups

  • Qi Gong Teacher Training

 

What is a Continuing Education Non-Contact Hours? 

Continuing Education Non-Contact Hours consist of learning outside of the classroom or without a qualified Continuing Education Provider present. All hours must be directly related to one of our Educational Categories.

A Non-Contact Hour is earned by completing one hour of any of the following activities:

  • Reading a book or article or watching a video.
  • Being a student participant in a webinar or taking an online or correspondence course.
  • Receiving remote mentoring.
  • Authoring content for public dissemination (e.g. in newsletters, CDs, DVDs, newspapers, magazines, online, etc.)
  • Creating class materials for distribution to students.

    Each RCFRQT or RCFRTT is required to submit a written reflection or evaluation of each activity to demonstrate what was learned and how it relates to one or more of our Educational Categories.

 

Who May Offer Continuing Education?

Each RCFRQT or RCFRTT must ensure they obtain Continuing Education from a qualified provider who meets any of the criteria below:

  • Qualified Education Providers have to be authorized by FR.
  • A Forest Rock Certified Education Provider (FRCEP).
  • Attend a FR certified Course conducted by Lead Trainer(s) that are at the appropriate level to teach the relevant Forest Rock Qigong Student (FRQS) designation.
  • Someone who has a relevant degree, certification, or substantial education in the subject that he or she will teach, which must be related to a Forest Rock Educational Category. Plus, a minimum of 500 hours of teaching experience in that subject and/or the equivalent of two years of relevant experience in that subject area.

Forest Rock reserves the right to request supporting documentation from an RCFRQT or RCFRTT to substantiate the qualifications of any non-FRCEP.

 

How do I log Continuing Education Hours?

Each RCFRQT or RCFRTT must log Continuing Education and send an email to info@forestrock.com with the logged hours on a spreadsheet.

Educational Categories and where you learn something new may be logged as Continuing Education training hours.

 

FAQs

Can I count teaching or training hours towards both Continuing Education and upgrading my teacher credentials?

Yes, you can use your teaching hours and training hours towards a higher hour qualification.

Can I count an additional 200hr training toward CE?

Yes, any additional Qi Gong Teacher Training hours that relate to our Educational Categories may count towards Continuing Education as long as you are already registered with Forest Rock.

Example: You are a RCFRQT 500 and you complete a second 200hr QTT.

Section 4.
Forest Rock Qigong School Code of Conduct

This is a declaration of acceptable ethical and professional behavior to which all registered Forest Rock Teachers agree with in respect to conducting the teaching and/or business of Qi Gong. It is not intended to supersede the ethics of any school or tradition or country or region’s legal codes of conduct but is intended to be a basis for Qi Gong principles.

Registered Certified Forest Rock Qigong Teachers (RCFRQTs) and Continuing Education Providers are representatives of Registered Forest Rock Qigong School (RFRSs) agree to uphold the following ethical principles:

  • Conduct themselves in a professional and conscientious manner. This includes but is not limited to ensuring that they live up to any commitments they make to their students or to the public and ensuring that their practices and behaviours conform to the representations they make about themselves in holding themselves as Qi Gong and Taiji practitioners who adhere to certain precepts.
  • Acknowledge the limitations of their skills and scopes of practice and – where appropriate – referring students to seek alternative instruction, advice, treatment, or direction.
  • Create and maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environments for the practice of Qi Gong and Taiji.
  • Encourage diversity by respecting all students regardless of age, physical limitations, race, creed, gender, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation.
  • Respect the rights, dignity, and privacy of all students.
  • Avoid words and actions that constitute sexual harassment or harassment based on other legal protected characteristics.
  • Adhere to the traditional Forest Rock Qigong School’s Principles and Rules.
  • Follow all local government and national laws that pertain to their Taiji and Qi Gong teaching and businesses.
  • Forest Rock Qigong School reserves the right to immediately suspend any member’s credentials and registration for the duration of any pending law enforcement investigation, criminal or civil legal proceedings, or an internal investigation.
  • Separately, Forest Rock Qigong School may also impose final sanctions on a member’s credentials and registration for cause including failure to uphold any aspect of the Code of Conduct. For these purposes, prior to imposing final sanctions on the member, Forest Rock Qigong School will provide notice on the basis for the potential final sanction and an opportunity to respond. After review of the evidence, Forest Rock Qigong School will issue a decision as to whether to impose final sanctions based on its reasonable judgment of the evidence before it. All members agree to hold Forest Rock Qigong School harmless for any losses or damage that they may incur because of the revocation of credentials.

Registration Fees

There are currently no fees to be a registered Forest Rock Qigong School Teacher. As a registered FR Teacher, you get access to the FR Teaching Directory on the FR website where teachers have their own profile page – which displays where they teach, their weekly class timetables, and their upcoming courses.
